People look down on McDonald’s employees but fail to realize that if all these folks left McDonald’s and pursued “better careers”  your ass wouldn’t be able to get a McDouble with an Oreo McFlurry at 3am.

You can’t demand a service while simultaneously degrading those who provide it for you.

I think - as someone who has experienced getting a lot of shit from gay and lesbian people, including people trying to get me fired from my job because being bi made me “not queer enough” to work at the LGBT bookstore, and harassment in my place of work - that there really is an element of internalized homophobia to it when gay and lesbian people lash out at bisexual people. There’s a big, big component of playing respectability politics and “who is the acceptable queer” - when people say that bisexual people are sluts, hypersexual, inevitable cheaters, disease-spreaders, etc, that’s rooted in the same hypersexualization that gay and lesbian people face. When gay and lesbian people participate in this, they’re participating in a rhetoric that also has been used against them. This is what I mean when I say that the root of biphobia is homophobia. The problem the straight world has with bisexuals isn’t that they might end up with a partner who’s seen as gender-appropriate for them to be with, it’s that they might not.

"Wherever perfectionism is driving, shame is riding shotgun. Perfectionism is not about healthy striving, which you see all the time in successful leaders, it’s not about trying to set goals and being the best we can be, perfectionism is basically a cognitive behavioral process that says if I look perfect, work perfect, and do everything perfectly, I can avoid shame, ridicule, and criticism. It’s a defense mechanism."

"Why Doing Awesome Work Means Making Yourself Vulnerable"

So, I’ve been waiting for someone to explain this extremely simple concept to me my entire life.

Hooooly shit I needed to read this article.

"When I interview leaders, artists, coaches, or athletes who are very successful, they never talk about perfectionism as being a vehicle for success. What they talk about is that perfectionism is a huge trigger, one they have to be aware of all the time, because it gets in the way of getting work done."

Yyyyyyyyep.

I abused the binding of my new Gekkan Shoujo anthology for you, so enjoy! Tsubaki Izumi did an extra chapter especially for it, and once I read it I had to translate it. Zip file is here with the cover image and a couple other drawings included. I highly recommend buying the anthology even if you can’t read Japanese, it’s pretty great.
